Description: (a) Course in utilization of low-energy accelerator physics (2 MeV), including experiments; application of X-ray physics, including experiments; (b) Practical course on neutron physics: measurements of parameters such as neutron temperature, diffusion length, Fermi age, resonance data and others particularly relevant to reactor physics; TRIGA Mk-II reactor (250 kW) and several radioactive neutron sources available; (c) Course on reactor physics and instrumentation: measurements on reactor kinetics, experiments include detectors and electronics; TRIGA Mk-II reactor (250 kW) available; (d) Practical course on radiation protection: dosimetry of alpha-, beta-, gamma-, x-, and neutron-radiation, radiation shielding, measurement of activity concentration in air and water; (e) Practical course on low-temperature physics: experiments with superconducting materials (conventional and high-temperature superconductors), measurements of temperature and magnetic fields at cryogenic temperatures; (f) Practical course on archaeometry: radiocarbon dating, thermoluminescence dating, neutron activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis of archaeological samples; (g) Radiochemistry: handling and measurement of radioactive materials, application of nuclear techniques in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, biochemistry, geochemistry. Approximately 15 to 20 participants per course.

Open to: (a) to (f) nationals of all countries with a B.Sc. or equivalent in physics and allied sciences who have at least a basic knowledge of higher mathematics and for: (a) radiation physics; (b) nuclear and neutron physics; (c) nuclear and reactor physics and electronics; (d) nuclear and radiation physics; (e) solid-state and low-temperature physics; (f) radiation physics methods in archaeometry; (g) nationals with a B.Sc. or equivalent in chemistry, physics, biology or geochemistry.

Duration: (a) and (d) 1 to 4 months; (b) and (e) 2 weeks; (c) 1 to 2 weeks; (f) 5 weeks (course begins in November); (g) 1 month.

Programmes: International Postgraduate Training Course in Limnology.

Description: aim of the course is to build up scientific capacity in developing countries for in-house expertise on aquatic ecosystems conservation and management through a sound scientific knowledge base. The IPGL course has been restructured and is part of the sandwich M.Sc. programme in 'Limnology and Wetland Ecosystems'. The network builds up on the exchange of graduate students and staff, collaboration in M.Sc. and Ph.D. training programmes and joint supervision and management of research and development programmes.

Open to: citizens of developing countries holding a degree equivalent to Bachelor's or Master's in science, aquaculture or fisheries, and with knowledge of physics, chemistry and zoology; practical experience preferred; certificate of English proficiency required; candidates should be recommended by authorities in their home country and should state the expected use of the course in their future work.

Description: music education covers all musical instruments, composition, conducting and voice; performing arts includes theatre, film and television. Scientific emphasis is put on several subjects (i.e. cultural management, music therapy, music sociology, etnomusicology).

Open to: candidates of all nationalities with outstanding musical proficiency and fair knowledge of German. Foreign nationals must prove financial independence in order to receive residence permit.
