Scholarships: (a) Quaid-e-Azam Scheme; (b) Central Overseas Training Scholarships (COTS); (c) Travel Grants to Teachers (1 for 3 years for the international seminar; number varies for Ph.D. programmes, depending on funds); (d) Khushal Khan Khattak Scholarship (1) for a student who secures the next to highest marks after Quaid-e-Azam and Merit Scholarships, from NWFP universities of Pakistan; (e) Allama Iqbal Scholarship (one for all general universities); (f) Merit Scholarship Scheme; (g) 100 Scholarship Scheme.
Subjects: (a), (b) and (d) Ph.D. programmes abroad in almost all subjects of science and arts (approved by the Government of Pakistan); (c) science preferred; (e) Ph.D. in Philosophy; (f) for 2 years M.Phil. study in Pakistan and 3 years Ph.D. study abroad.
Open to: nationals of Pakistan; (a) doctoral candidates, with M.A., M.Sc. Agriculture, M.Sc. Engineering and first position in a university (the entire academic career of the student is evaluated for competition); (b) university teachers, aged 25 to 40; (c) Pakistani university teachers; (d) resident students of NWFP universities of Pakistan; merit scholarships are awarded as follows in general universities: 1 to a student who tops in science subjects; 1 to a student who stands first in art subjects; in engineering universities: 1 to a student who secures first position in the departments of civil and mechanical engineering and another to a student who tops in the remaining departments; agriculture universities: 1 to a student who tops in animal husbandry and veterinary departments and another to a student who secures first position in the remaining departments; (g) talented students of low-paid employees (BPS1-15) for higher studies leading to Ph.D. abroad.
Place of study: (a), (b), (d) and (e) in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and New Zealand; (c) anywhere, subject to approval of the Government of Pakistan.
Duration: (a), (b) and (e) initially 1 year (renewable up to 3 years); (c) throughout the year; (d) initially 1 year (renewable up to 5 years); (f) and (g) 2 years M.Phil. study in Pakistan and 3 years Ph.D. study abroad.
Value: (a), (b), (d) and (e) maintenance (depending on the country); travel, books, tuition fee, thesis preparation, study tour expenses; paid monthly in advance in the currency of the country; (c) air fare and maintenance.
